This heartwarming watercolour and gouache painting features dappled light coming through the forest to land on a small lone tree amidst the moss and ferns of a west coast forest. The sap greens highlight the sunny leaves. This woodland art print would fit in wonderfully with nature home decor or those who want a light rustic feel.
The last couple weeks I've been making an effort to mindfully spend time in the forest that surrounds my house. I think all of us have a tendency to get caught up in the mundane day-to-day monotony, and right now with all the troubling events of the world, it can be overwhelming and anxiety-inducing. I've been battling with some creative/art block the past several months, and I think a lot of that has to do with being too closed off and overstimulated, to the point where there is simply no room for creativity to exist.
So I've been working on a healing and somewhat spiritual combination of both opening up and widening my focus (to truly see the big picture, renew my perspective, contemplate what life is and what it's about, why I'm here, what I am, who I am, and the interconnected nature of the environment I live in) and closing off and narrowing my focus (noticing the miniscule details that many pass over and zooming in on the tiny intricate life forces that are difficult to notice, and becoming truly mindful of my surroundings).
In doing so, I've been finding I'm inspired to paint some of the scenes I've come across. I found this grove within the forest where tall, dark trees loomed overhead and in the middle, with a beam of sunlight filtering down, sat a small, lone tree basking in the dappled light. It was breathtaking. It was important.
I've called this one "Where The Light Falls".
